#RPGaDAY2025 DAY 21: UNEXPECTED

This is the twenty-first day of #RPGaDAY2025 and today the prompt that leaps on us from surprise on the shelf is the word unexpected. The more experienced a group becomes, the less common it can be to encounter the unexpected. Often a group moves over time from a harmonious unity between character and player surprise toward a conscious handling of what the player knows versus what the character does. It can affect satisfaction. When we are planning pitch that we hope will lead to long-term, open-ended play, this is a detail we should consider.

This is the seventeenth day of #RPGaDAY2025 and our prompt today is renew. Let’s look at this prompt from the point of view of the characters. There are a lot of things to say about this prompt from the perspective of the players or the player who takes on the role of GM – especially in terms of sustainability, however, we can get a better grip on the meat of our nascent campaign idea if we choose to place our focus inside the imagined situation of our characters’ world.
