#RPGaDAY2024 Day 29: Awesome App
Posted by Runeslinger on August 29, 2024 · Leave a Comment
The standard prompt for Day 29 of #RPGaDAY2024 is inquiring after apps for roleplaying gamers. There was a time, which to my mind seems not all that long ago, but probably is, when there were none. Then, there was a period where they were just for dice, then for dice and random tables, and now…? Well, you tell me!

The only apps that I use for my gaming are all dice-related and mainly for when I am pressed for time, on the road, and dealing with a lot of characters and shenanigans in play.
No Frills, All Encompassing
When I need to roll dice and have no dice, I go for an app which sadly seems to no longer be available. I have talked about it for #RPGaDAY before, so I will be brief. I use Dice Bag. It allows you to choose the dice, choose how they will be rolled, how the results will be processed, and shows you that plus the individual numbers rolled while saving a log of each roll request. Excellent. I have been using it for over a decade now.
Specific and Extensive
When on the road and playing Mechwarrior or BattleTech, my app of choice is BT Dice. A search again reveals this app seems to no longer be available. This seems to be turning into a retrospective of awesome apps rather than a list of must-haves! The app handles all elements of combat between mechs with whatever weaponry, at whatever range, across whatever terrain, at whatever speeds with aplomb, and then helps you serve up the damage. Very handy!
Less Specific and More Extensive
The last app to share, and I will not look it up because a little mystery and investigation should have been on Schwarzeconan’s list, is the dice app from Fantasy Flight Games which in addition to having standard polyhedrals, also provided all the dice for Genesys and all the Star Wars skirmish and wargames with dice. Massively handy in so many situations.
How about you? Are you using any apps that people can actually get for themselves?
