#RPGaday2015 – Day 7: Favorite Free RPG

Day 7! Today’s RPGaday question again elicits more than one response, or at least has us leaping back and forth across the fence of interpretation. I once again have qualifiers to my reading of the question which leads me to put forth two answers.
I suspect this will be an ongoing theme…
My first and immediate response to the question was simply, “All Outta Bubblegum.” It’s free, it’s impressive, it’s fun, and you somehow manage to get more from it than you invest, no matter how much of yourself you invest in it. Sadly, the original version is no longer at the link it used to be, so there are a lot of dead links out there. Some kind souls have made sure it’s still available though. Join them. Play and share the game~
My second thought was RuneQuest Essentials. This is to my mind the best expression of the “try it and see” approach to managing a game line. It’s not a tease. It’s not a limited run of rules just enough to have you ride a one-shot railroad. It’s what it says in the title, and it’s enough to run a very meaty game for years. It is available in PDF for free, or in PoD for a small fee.
How about you?
