Today’s question is bound to make my friends laugh as they consider how I might approach making this decision. I am a person with a penchant for purchasing particular and patently purposed polyhedrals. Among all of these dice, how could I possibly pick a favorite?

Day 9: Describe your favorite dice
On the Casting Shadows podcast I mentioned which set of dice, as in a specific set of dice, are my favorite. That is not an easy choice. Here, I will share my favorite type of dice.
Regulars here will know of my deep love for the Ubiquity Roleplaying System. They also might be able to guess therefore that among my favorite dice are Ubiquity’s U-dice. These color-coded D8s Allow a set of 9 dice to replace dice pools as large as 18 dice and speed up recognition and counting of successes at the same time. Both of these features are valuable to me.

In addition to the dice shown above were bronze, silver, and gold U-dice with gear icons for the Ubiquity version of Space 1889, and Triple Ace Games have done artful D2s for All for One, Leagues of Gothic Horror, and Leagues of Cthulhu.
Dice like these make a fast system faster, reduce switching costs between IC and OoC play, and speed up teaching the game as well.
What’s not to love?
For those of you wondering about the narrative dice from Star Wars and its generic sibling,Genesys, they too have a place among favorites, but not today…
